I'll say EF details (environmental damage).

EF but maybe conservation on the coin would help. Probably cost too much for the value. Still I like the coin. I do not have many Liberty nickels but have always liked the coin.

My Two Cents:

Not a bad coin but has problems.

As is, the coin is a details coin due to the crud. The ticks and scratches might detail it, too.

Try removing the black crud at the 10:30 position by gently nudging it with a cotton swab tip soaked in acetone (or alcohol). You may also remove it with a toothpick (very gently) or by using your fingernail. Then give us another pic.

I know if it were mine the black stuff would have to come off.

Good luck!

Overall, EF. The black spot is what caught my eye first...not a good thing. If it were mine I would not bother getting her graded. Very nice looking to me also. Cleaned

Better eye appeal but still an EF details coin.

Looks much better without the obnoxious black crud.

XF40 details, cleaned.

Whatever the black spot was it had a reactive effect on the underlying metal as I can now see pitting on the surface below where it used to be.

Still - better eye appeal IMO with it removed.
