Every nickel I've weighed so far is 4.93-4.95 and I only have my old .00 small pocket currently so I'd need to see my better one. But I've seen pennys all over, so 5 hundredths is fairly common from what I've seen but I'm just chalking it up as PMD thought it was strange no other parts had damage of abrasion like that.

If it came from the mint this way I would expect it to be evenly toned. Not two toned

As a metal worker, you has to know that you can grind with .01, .02 .03 mm. Your vision and logic do not stand on valid strong base.

Very interesting! Why would anyone sand down a coin? Weird, but I guess it happens!
Trust the pros here! They know what they're talking about.

we see an incredible amount of strange intentional damage to coins here. Do a search for sanded coins at the top of this forum. See what comes up.

Quick search above taught me something new Dearborn. That's why I love this community. Learning something new every day!
