Saw these medals during a random scan of ebay this weekend and could not resist. Enjoy!

G'day,
very nifty: especially the bull-riding.

1st medal celebrates 600 year of coin minting in Stuttgart, I think. Any help on identifying both would be appreciated.

That's what the inscription says, yes. The text on the other side is in Latin and means something like Seal of Eberhard, Count of Württemberg.

Europa on the Bull (Zeus) is a fairly common theme on coins and medals with "European" themes. She is the one who our continent was named after, so to say. The other side says Butchers Federation of Austria. In the middle, the federal CoA, surrounded by the arms of the Austrian states.

By the way, the Baden-Württemberg Mint (of which Stuttgart is one facility; Karlsruhe is the other one) has two silver proof versions of the first medal in its shop. One is "shiny", the other one has a frosted look. Would give you the link, but all I get now is a server error message.

(Edit) Here we go: http://www.staatlichemuenzenbw.de/ On the left, click on "Shop". Then, on the next page, click on "Artikelgruppen" on the left (or click that "weiter zu den Artikelgruppen" box at the top), finally click on "Medaillen" and scroll down quite a bit.

Here is an article from a German coin magazine http://www.muenzenmagazin.de/m%FCnz...tuttgart.pdf about the Stuttgart facility. On the last page there is a paragraph "1374 verlieh der Kaiser Stuttgart das Münzrecht" which says that on 17 January 1374 Emperor Charles IV granted Count Eberhard II of Württemberg the right to mint coins. In the top right corner of that page you can also see that historic document. Not detailed, but that is what your medal commemorates ...

Hmm, I wonder what those butchers would do with the bull ...

Had a closer look at the other side, and that looks different from what you usually see on Austrian coins. Here are the CoA's as they appear on modern Austrian collector coins: http://www.muenze-oesterreich.at/im...ser/2209.jpg The eagle in the center is the (federal) Austrian eagle though; see here http://www.muenze-oesterreich.at/im...user/530.jpg for example. Strange.
