We could always do like the French did in 1960 with a new Franc worth 100 old Francs, but in reverse and by 10. Coins are suddenly worth 10 times more. So a cent is worth 10 cents, a nickel 50 cents, a dime an old dollar, and a dollar is worth $10. They would probably have to redesign/resize everything.

Boy that would really screw things up!

Lets just go back to the 'barter' system

I could make up a new Dansco album for 'proof' dried carrots and bananas..

The cent has got to go. The nickel needs to change or go away. Of course, getting rid of the nickel would be easier if the Twenty Cents coin had replaced the quarter back in the 1870s.

that's a rather mathematically challenged article, for example, one can't make 15 cents change without nickels or cents, so the proposal is DOA
Easy solution: nix the dimes too. When the quarter is the smallest coin, the math works perfectly. As a bonus, you can round any integer cent amount to the nearest 25 without having to deal with numbers exactly between the rounding options.

Maybe the Mint could start producing ( 2 cent Coins ) and ( 3 cent coins ) out of different Composition's.
Using 3 less ( 1 Cent coins instead of 5 )

Now there's an idea!!

Bio-degradable coins. If it gets dropped, within a week it turns to dirt. Could help fertilize yards and forests.

simply cheapen the nickel by making it smaller and aluminum

Then you'd have to call it "the aluminium"

I suppose a road rash banana wouldn't have much value--unless the 5 second rule was applied.

Jokes aside, I second the idea of getting rid of cents and nickels! After all, we got by as recently as 1962 with no coins worth less than our present dime.

I cannot speak the the 1962 claim, but I believe my last significant use of the penny was in the late 1980s when I was buying large fountain drinks at the local convenience store. If I recall correctly, they were $0.39 (tax included) and I always paid with exact change.
