Hi experts , appreciate any help you can give. Apologies if Ive posted in the wrong area. Found it a bit tricky to find the right area. I collect trench art . I have a matchbox holder. . It is 1st or 2nd WW with a coin/token which I believe much older coin attached. Unfortunately I can only see one side as its attached and at this stage I don't want to try and remove it. Matchbox holder was made in France. Looks and feels like lead or silver. Likely a mixture as if lead would have less definition I think ?

Diameter is 31mm

Letters I S I A? (last letter looks like Pi but under magnifying glass looks like its an A with the horizontal line less prominent in in a v shape

Many thanks

Thankyou for your swift response.Iit is attached to a tin plate material likely made of a food ration tin so literally nothing on it other than a rusty patini

@keith, the OP has said that they don't want to remove this piece from the underlying matchbook cover.

@mar, first welcome to CCF. Second, can you tell if this coin has a reeded edge? That might help us narrow things down a bit. Also, what is the diameter? Thx.

I tried five image searches and came up with a hit. (With the engine I should have used first, Numista Exonumia image search.)

French Souvenir medal.

There doesn't appear to be a listing in Token Catalog. https://tokencatalog.com

You deserve a medal ! Many thanks for taking the time

I have managed to partly remove from the match box holder and the reverse is actually completely blank, but as you say the front is a perfect match so I'm guessing it was a copy or ground down to stick on the box

Great site , thanks to all who viewed and assisted
