Really cool coin but I have no idea what this is. I did find a nickle with the same thing.

These don't look like 'Mint Cancelled' coins. The mint waffle cancels coins so they look like these examples.

Your cent seem to show repeated punch marks from a diamond shaped instrument and the nickel looks like it was pressed in the jaws of a vice as seen in this image.
