This one appears to have been struck thru a piece of wire or bristle.

Lots of pictures. This one seems to have small cuts on the planchet prior to striking.

I would say those were in the planchet then struck. Struck through on the letters. But we'll see what other's think.

I don't see a struck through of any kind here. I see marks on the planchet that were left behid by the strike. They could be the result of incomplete cuts or could just be simple damage to the planchet before the strike. Given this, it would be considered an error, but I am not sure what kind of error or whether it would warrant any premium value. This is one for Mike Diamond to comment on.

Thanks Charles, all the coins I've found with cuts in them seemed to be of the same size on the devices and fields. This first one seems to have wider and deeper cuts in the devices, that's why I assumed it was a struck through. I'll run this by Mr. Diamond and see what he has to say.

As Chuck said, these seem to be shallow cuts on the surface of the planchet present before the strike. I can't speculate on what caused them. I haven't seen damage exactly like this before, but pre-strike damage is endlessly variable.
Error coin writer and researcher.
