Thanks all. 2 black specs on obverse (nose/eye) are not attached, just debris post Acetone bath. Blew off after noticed in pics.

Pics a bit dark to see the surface details clearly.

Looks good. I'd say somewhere in the MS63-65 range.

I see a coin with generally clean surfaces but very weakly struck. The strike is so weak it makes the high points look smeared - Lincoln hair, Eagle head and breast shield, etc.

I say the strike holds this coin back from gem and is MS64 range.

thx nickelsearcher. funny you mention strike as it is one of the reasons I asked the forum. any time I get my hands on something this clean I try to grade before even a glance online. I was at 65 with weak strike holding it back but when I went out to PCGS, almost same coin at 68 (even with super weak base on 7 and 1). At last, I officially give up ever trying to understand how they arrive at some #'s

i agree with the strike but I cant take off enough to get this coin down to a 64 grade. a couple small spots on the reverse. full luster no breaks that I can see. I'm really close to MS66 on this one.

Out of curiousity, does MD'ing - either minor or significant - have a negative impact on grading?
