My twentieth century display. Image: typeset1.jpg97.55 KB Open to see the backs of the coins. Image: typesetopen.jpg74.6 KB Image: typesetopen2.jpg83.14 KB Close up of coins, with reflection. Image: typesetcoins.jpg80.7 KB The moderns are proofs, most of the rest are MS, except the Barbers, the Standing Libertys and the V nickel. I'll upgrade them as income permits. The woods are African Satinwood and Bubinga.

that's absolutely beautiful! Did you make the frame or have it made? If you had it made where did you get that done. It is so lovely!

Made the frame - my other hobby is woodworking. It's about $150.00 in materials and about 25 hours labor. Plus about $80.00 for the Capital Plastics holder.
Thanks for the compliment!

wow! you are very talented! If I had a type set I would love to see it like that. You should have an online framing business for those. I bet you would get a lot of business. Can you make frames like that that are smaller? What about the actual insert that the coins are held in with the description? Did you make that too?

No, the insert holding the coins is a Capital Plastics holder, got it from CoinExpress.com. Could make wood frames like that in any size though.

I buy glass frame boxes to hold some of my coins but I am in love with how yours can be opened to see both sizes. You did a wonderful job!

Wow, very cool idea and excellent woodworking skills! If I recall correctly, you also made that beautiful coin table drawer with the mahogany wood sunburst pattern. Truly amazing craftsmanship!

amazing! I love that little cabinet too! May I ask how much that was in supplies and labor?

The small cabinet (actually about 20" x 20" and 30" high) probably was about $100 in materials (mostly oak instead of fancy woods like the type set holder) but about 40 hours labor because of the fancy veneering. Inside is lined with black velour with two shelves and is used to store roll boxes, 2x2 boxes, proof sets and such. Under the glass top are surplus darkside coins.

As with everyone else, fantastic wood in that cabinet. Really nice graining. I think I like that more than the coins. Nice contrast in the woods from the overall frame to the cabinet and the swing out is not apparent as with hidden hinges or something. You should really look into making those for buisness purposes and forget about the coin stuff. Family photos, hidden jewlery, stacks of currency, stock certificates, etc. Oh yeah, great for coins too.

are you planning on upgrading those barber and standing liberty coins? The only reason I ask is those are the only ones that look circulated in the whole set and would bother the heck out of me and just wondered if it bothered you as well. I guess I want all my coins to all look close to the same condition and wonder if anyone else feels this way or am I just to anal
