Please help identify this one, diameter 18-20mm. Paid $10 for it at an antique shop yesterday, the dealer had no idea what it could be worth:

I like that one--I hope it's real and all that
Here I might as well as those who know--are the edges an important consideration for authenticating Ancients?

This coin shows many signs of being a cast reproduction of a Thessalian League Stater I am afraid. The details are soft and there appear to be casting pits on the surfaces.

Thanks, Martin. I Googled that and actually got a page from Wildwinds to load:

http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/gree...ssaly/t.html

which clearly proves you are correct. I looked at my reproductions of Roman coins I bought in Bath, UK last year (all of which are stamped "WRL" for Westair Reproductions Ltd, Birmingham, UK) and they have similar casting marks or pitting, so in view of what I paid and the fact the dealer had no history or provenance, and the coin was in a plastic bag with no markings, I'd have to agree its a fake worth about a dollar. Live and learn!

G'Day Malibu,There are a few of us that do get caught from time to time,If you trust the seller and have dealt with that seller before you can email the seller and tell him it's a forgery and usually they give you a refund that is most of the time, but there are those that miss-lead you knowing what there selling and still don't care or answer any one's emails and regardless of what anyone said still sell those forgery's.
This is a coin that I brought thinking it was genuine then found out later it's a forgery

I always dislike telling someone that they have been caught because I know the feeling too. I bought an unlisted eastern mint Julia Domna denarius only to see a twin appear on the market a week later. It turned out to be one of a whole series of high quality cast fakes about to flood the market.

Greek-Coin?

I take these things as lessons to be learned. Learn what to look for and don't make the same mistake again.

Best regards,
Martin

I examined the edges and found there is indeed a seam so this is clearly a fake.

I just learned from another forum that you can post your fakes to forgerynetwork.com.

here is my post for my Thessalian stater:
