very strange. The 6 in the date as well as most of the border devices are intact and apparently unaffected by this 'ring', however the 'S' in trust, looks off.
Not seeing any extreme damage on the reverse
rim damage on the obverse at K3
I have go guesses as to what this can be..

I was going to say, a very extreme example of coin roll crimper damage. Then I looked at the 6 as Dearborn did. Looks like whatever it is it was prestrike. I'm going to have to say the three words adult males never say. [ I don't know.]

The only thing that comes to mind might be a Magicians coin?

That could explain the color and height difference between the central area and the perimeter on the obv.

And the 6 seems to have a very slight line going through it.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
