Got a few Indian head rolls from ebay, supposedly not open or searched. Seller said they came from an estate sale. Should be here by Friday.

Have you all had any luck with these type of purchases? I'm pretty sceptical about them but figured I'd give them a shot.

I believe our general consensus here is that most of these "unsearched" rolls are indeed searched and carefully crimped back shut after all the "goodies" are hunted out. Now there is a small probability that these are genuinely unsearched coins in which you might do really good, but fairly doubtful at that... Best of luck to you on your endeavors with these rolls!

We would like to see what you find, if anything

Agree with the above. It's possible the ebay seller didn't search them, but the prior owner may well have. It's a somewhat risky purchase.

Yeah I assumed all those rolls on ebay are picked through. The seller said they were from an estate sale, and they didn't have any Indian heads listed or sold on their account. I figured it was a higher shot of being genuine.

I'll let you all know if it's a bust or not.

Not to go off topic. But I just picked up 4 sealed bank bags (50.00 face value) each
Of cents.

Without a doubt in my mind they have been searched.

This whole "estate sale" story is a very old tactic as well.

Save your money and buy a coin you can be proud of. If you really like surprise, have a local coin shop put together a grab bag for you.

I've bought a few such rolls over the years when they go cheaply. They've been put together rolls with a the seller hoping for a big payday. I haven't bought one of these rolls in at least 10 years and perhaps you will have a different experience. But it's not likely. At all.

How would they even know they are all Indian Heads if they hadn't been searched? Regardless, you may get a mixture of common dates for a good start for an album.

Is it possible, sure. Is it probable, not a chance.

After the dealer fills the tubes with his coins he doesn't need to search them again. They're unsearched when you get them. Weasel words.

If the seller is being completely honest...maybe they are truly unsearched to their knowledge. Not everyone collects or cares for coins. I'm an optimist! Yes, do let us know what you find. Sounds like a fun search.

You seldom get more than you pay for in this world, but you can easily get less, especially on ebay.

I purchased one of these "unsearched" rolls several years ago. Contained mostly commons, average VG, a few bent coins, and an AG 1872. Overall not bad. I think I paid around $40.
