If you're asking about the big "X" scratched into the surface of that Lincoln Cent, it's just damage.

Yes, post-strike damage--almost certainly deliberate.

Just damage or graffiti as noted. Why people need to mark up perfectly nice old coins is beyond me. It could have happened in 1939, but I still have to wonder why it was done.
