A few years ago I bought many kilos of "bulk world coins" for around $12 a kilo. I thought I might look into getting some more but when I looked on ebay I was flabbergasted to see them going for over $30 a kilo.

Nothing special, just the same old low value or demonetised stuff that have been sold and resold countless times over the years.

I pity the fool who thinks they will find a treasure amongst these lots (or even a single silver coin).

Just another example of unprecedented times calling for unprecedented prices?

OzLeigh, I am seeing the same thing on other online auction sites. $20 US or more per pound, not including buyer's premium and shipping. For junk modern coins.
Absolutely befuddling.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

I've noticed the same in the UK. A couple of days ago in an Antiques Centre I saw a small cardboard box of mixed World coins (mostly modern UK pre-decimal and EU pre-Euro) priced at £70, and a tray of junk coins priced at £1 each! A few years ago nobody would ever charge more than 10p each for coins like those.
