Dear everyone,

This half crown is up for sale in a local auction house. Yheew already care 15 bidders and its ten days until the auction is over. What do you think about it? How much do you think is a fair price to this coin? I am thinking of bidding on it.

We just sold an NGC PF66* Cameo for nearly $500 USD .
This stuff is red hot right now and commanding prices far in excess
of catalogue . Good luck as the one pictured will likely go for a very high price!

I bought a PF-64 example for $15, about 20 years ago.
Managed to get a proof '37 Florin and Penny at the same time.

I am fortunate enough to also have a
'37 George V1 Five Sovereigns, PF-65 (no edge nicks) - came from Spinks in London, about 25 years ago
'37 George V1 Two Sovereigns - would have been PF-64, but it has a minor but obvious scratch, (public auction Sydney), and a
'37 George V1 Sovereign, but only PF-62. (public auction Sydney)
Still looking for the Half Sovereign

The gold is protected in ex Royal Mint acrylic screw sealed capsules, originally issued for much more recent Royal Mint proof silver coins.

1937 proof strike half crowns are not rare. Simply search UK coin dealers online and you'll find yourself a FDC example for between £40 and £60.

The coin on my post is not graded. It has some unattractive looking small scratches on the lower side of King George's cheek. But still it has a nice overall appearance and condition. I'll bid some to see what happens. Everyone, thank you very much for your comments

Yes, those marks would put me off.
The ones I sent links for are all better than the one you're bidding on.

Agree with all of the above in fact I wouldn't bid on it at all. There are plenty of these out there and being a proof everything is in the detail So any marks and scratches for me is just a no no. Wait for another they are common coins Hoarded Id pop a bid in of £25 and I would be more disappointed if I won lols

Guys I agree with you. Any flaw largely reduces the eye appeal of a proof coin. However I have a thing for half crowns and I don't have this one. I'm tempted to throw a £20 bid on it and with taxes and buyers premium, it will cost me a £22 if I win. Not a good investment but still not too much of an amount to worry about, I think

Yes, definitely worth a punt at £20, but don't be tempted to go any more than a pound or two higher than that.

Update : the coin is about £50 (plus fees and comission) mark and the auction will emd tonight. If there were no scratch marks I was thinking of bidding a £50 to it but I will let it go. Auction ending tonight.
