I can make out GEORGIUS III, a laurel wreath design with a Crown at the open end, date is below on the rim, very worn. No obvious denomination value. weight is 13g, diameter approx 33mm. Copper not silver. Any ideas much appreciated. Many thanks Brian.

JBL, it may be a George III 1 stiver, although the weight is off. Check the edge: smooth with a reeded groove running circumferentially around the edge of the coin (there is a pic of this on the 1/2 stiver page) https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces17809.html

I think it's a copper counterfeit of a Bank of England 3-shilling token, presumably originally silvered. The cross on George's neck may have been made by whoever first identified it as a counterfeit, to prevent it from circulating any more. Thanks. I have weighed it again on some better scales and it is 13.5g Rim is very worn but no real sign of the reeded groove, but it is in poor shape overall. The Stiver looks promising. Cheers Brian.

Don't think it can be a George III Bank of England Token as it definitely has a Crown emblem at the top of the wreath and the tokens do not show that.

Funny that you bring up the George III bank token, Numisrob. I was going through a pile of "old copper and foreign coins" from an auction lot that arrived recently. Among them was this specimen that may or may not be genuine. Weight = 12.38 g; diameter = ~ 35 mm.

Thanks everyone, I'll go with the 1813 1 Stiver. Looking again this morning with the sunlight highlighting the coin it was just possible to make out a couple of letters that fit the legend. Weight is a bit off but I'll put that down to wear and variation. Cheers Brian.
