Hi.Is it possible damage caused by excess metal by the mint?

Good question @jose. In order for that extra metal to have been there when this coin was struck, there would have needed to be a chip on the die. This doesn't really look like that to me. Rather this looks like extra material that has been added onto the surface of the coin. It's hard to know for sure, so it will be nice to see what others think.
