I know over inking of serial number digits do not demand a premium, but to what extent does
Can somebody provide an example?

Slight over inking isn't common, yet it's far from being rare. The error typically shows up on the district or treasury seal and occasionally on the serial numbers. I was able to find an example on the Heritage archives. This is not my note.

with SteveinTampa. Series 2013 has an abundance of that type. I see a lot of those heavy ink on the third digit and its a minor over inking error. Personally I saved a few of the 2013's when I first noticed them, but after a bit, I realized how common that type of "error" really is being found at least for that specific series and ended up keeping only a couple that just look interesting for a currency collection. Initially they were/are selling for a few dollars over face value to casual collectors say 2-3 bucks but generally the thought is that these should not have too much value over face due to just how common they are, especially series 2013 where its very common.

Apparently I wasnt the only one as theserialflorist also posted a bunch from that series http://goccf.com/t/438192 Obviously if its on an earlier series where its not common or the note is uncirculated that may make the note more desirable to collectors and perhaps can take a chance on grading as apparently a few did. In this case its a 2017 series. Its unknown which if any of these errors will have any demand pushing up value yet and how common like the 2013 overinked serials will be. Since 2013 there is the new printing machinery being used so things are different than before 2013 and new problems always pop up with changes. I think I mentioned the ink bleed/smudging issue found on some 2017s here http://goccf.com/t/440922

These kind of finds also are great for beginner collectors also since they will pop up in typical circulated currency and also helps some people get interested in currency or errors on currency and collecting them. At $1 saving a few would be my recommendation and its a cool find

@SteveinTampa

So would the bill that I posted be of value with the number 8 on the right serial number?

I don't remember if I'm supposed to start a new topic or not but I'm using this bill as reference,
Would this one be collectible and desired? With the second zero on the left serial number.

Here are two notes that I found that I think are similar to what Steve is talking about (correct me if I'm wrong Steve :) )
