Is anyone else finding cash recyclers taking over their area? I am finding it more difficult for banks to find things for me because they can't keep much cash in there drawers anymore because of these recyclers. I am having to resort to having to buy packs to hunt instead of things getting set aside.

There are some things but not many because of the limit or it slips through the tellers hands because it goes in and out of the machine just like that. I get that it's easier and more efficient for them but it's ruined the fun.

When I'm making a typical withdrawal, the cashier at my bank retrieves the cash from a recycling machine and counts it out in front of me. When I ask for straps, the cashier leaves the lobby and goes through a door to presumably their safe, and comes back with straps.

The cash recycler actually makes the lobby a safer place.

Oh I get why they have switched to them for safety and accountability reasoning. I'm just meaning if your a collector or like to cherry pick like me, it puts a huge damper on the hobby. I'm just wondering how many cities and towns have them now.

I deal almost exclusively with a large, local Federal Credit Union where I'm a member. I've never thought of going into a bank that I'm not a member of to conduct business. Will banks deal with non-members ?

I deal with two locally here in my area as well. I just saw the other branch I go to switch to a recycler now as well. The two I go to in my area are Wells Fargo, which got the recycler last July. Now to find out the US Bank Branch I go to got one as well. I guess I'm not sure about the answer to your question.

Unfortunately, banks are in it for profit and not to support the hobby. You've had a "free ride" up until now.

Exactly! They are in for the profit, I wouldn't say it was a "free ride" because I always gave the tellers things for going out of there way for me and lord knows I've paid my fair share of fees banking with them. I knew this day would come a long time ago, glad I saved what I did when I did.

How about you @nss-52? Has it put a damper on your finding efforts?

I have never used a bank to find coins for my collection. Pocket change and purchases only. Don't get much pocket change anymore, as I can't even remember the last time I used cash.

I mostly get my $1 notes at the bank's atm machine near where I work in NYC. I have around 5 Chase banks that have around12-16 ATM machines that dispenses $1 notes.

I've noticed recently that I've not found any fancy notes. Maybe my luck is gone...lol

I did plenty of CRH in the 90s. I had a girl on the inside alerting me when rolls came in. Lots of great finds back in the day.

I miss it sometimes, but I have no regrets. Well, maybe one regret. I was looking at the coins only, never thought of looking for notes.

I am not sure about the last time I used cash. Probably to buy some Girl Scout cookies in front of Lowe's last year.
