It's not an error. It's environmental damage. It was exposed to something through fingers or circulation. Spend it.

From the photos, I can't see anything definitive. Need clearer photos of the questionable areas.

Hopefully this picture is better. I'm referring to the letters. They seem or look like they are double as there is a line down the middle of each letter and larger than normal.

Not an error.
Your coin suffers from two problems.
It was struck from a very worn obverse die, and it's been exposed to some type of nasty environment causing it to corrode from the inside out.
Very common for early plated steel dimes.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

I think what you see on the letters is ejection doubling, a form of Machine Doubling. Here's one thread about it http://goccf.com/t/253031
Other sources describe it as a lip of metal pulled up on the edges of devices as the coin exits the die.
