I was looking through a couple rolls of pennies I picked up from the bank some time last week and noticed a 2000 Philadelphia Wide AM penny. Its in circulated condition and not the highest circulated condition at that. My understanding is that of the several " Wide AM" penny varieties out there, that this one is the most common of them. I know you guys can't grade it especially from a photo that isn't of the best quality but can someone please give me a rough estimate on what it's value range roughly might be? I am keeping it for my collection but am interested in how much it roughly may be worth just for my own knowledge. I know it may barely fall in the double digit value range possibly, I'm not under the misconception it is valuable or of extreme rarity. Also is there a known estimate of how many 2000 Wide AM pennies are believed to be in circulation/were minted? I assume its hard to figure out besides the one's that have been graded/auctioned. Thank you all for all your help and quick responses. You guys never fail to reply with helpfulness. Most of my knowledge thus far has come from all the help mainly from this community and although still limited, I would be much less knowledgeable as I currently am without you all. I can't thank you guys enough!

Good find!! The 2000 is the most common one to find out of the 1998, 1999, and 2000. You can probaly get up to $5 depending on the condition of the coin. I have found both 1998 and 2000 3 times each I'm just going to keep them in my collection. The 1999 is the one to be on the look out for!

Nice find - worth a few dollars in that condition. Quote: Most of my knowledge thus far has come from all the help mainly from this community Let's work on your language; this coin is not an error it is a variety. An error occurs when something goes wrong in the minting process resulting in unintended design/features on a coin - such as an off center strike. A variety occurs when the die itself is produced in such a manner that it is different than the 'normal' dies used for that coin. Examples include the 1970-S small date cent and your 2000 WAM reverse. There is no error here as the coin is properly struck - just with a different reverse die in this case. So - what you have is a 2000 WAM variety.

Good summary of an important distinction.

Wide AM varieties for these are found in the master dies. Considering the huge numbers of pennies that are struck, it would be not worth the effort to re hub the working dies.

Sorry, I am aware of the distinction I just wasn't thinking when I wrote this up but I will be more careful when posting to use the correct terminology. Thank you guys I'm excited about it I've been looking for one of these for several months now so even though it's not the best condition I still consider it a nice find for my collection. Thank you all again your responses are greatly appreciated.

EVERY single 1998, 1999, 2000 penny I come across I immediately check the reverse for Wide AM and 99.9% of the time it isn't and I toss it in the spender pile so I don't accidentally have one and miss it and ultimately spend it without knowing. And same for 1992 but for Close AM of course. Especially since you don't need any magnifying device to see if it's the desired variety I'm looking for. I know I have definitely accidentally got rid of error pennies or desirable varieties because it isn't easily noticeable with the naked eye and got mixed in with the spender pile and I end up losing it and being none the wiser I ever had it in the first place. LOL Took me upwards of almost 6 months to locate this penny and first Wide AM I've come across so far. And that's with checking every possible one I come across.

I just found another 200 Wide AM variety just now while cleaning loose change I had laying around my room I must have overlooked the first time around. I know not very rare but still exciting! I check EVERY 1992 for close and every 1998, 1999, 2000 for wide I come across so only finding my second one to date is pretty sweet!
