Hi,

I've been attributing this coin and think it is KM 11, Denmark - Gluckstadt - 16th Thaler. Unfortunately Krause doesn't have a picture of this one (mine doesn't anyway). There are supposed to be three possible dates 1623-1625 but I can't see where the date should be -- It's probably off the flan - but I don't know where is SHOULD be.

Can anyone point me to the right position. It's probably under the Globe that liberty is standing on.

many thanks

Not able to be of much help here, but have you worked out the lettering, maybe with the help of online resources? Are those numbers on the obverse, between 9 and 11 o'clock?

I'm no expert, isn't the date at the end of the obv. legend MO NO C G IV (?) 23?

That certainly does look like a "23" between the 9 and 11 o'clock positions on the obverse. I just wonder what that "16" within the ovoid shape beneath the large "C" indicates.

You could well be right with the date -- I will search around the Internet and see what I can find, thanks for those pointers.

The 16 is meant to show it is a 1/16 of a Thaler

Dl20K is right, at least almost. The legend reads not 23 but Z3. The Z was used as a 2 on several older Danish coins. I have this coin mynself, only from (16)Z4 - in other words 1624. The first two digits they felt they could manage without.

Locally this was actually known as "3 Skilling lybsk". It was 48 Skilling to a Thaler back then.
