Ok so I don't collect coins but will if I find them so bare with me.

Coin had just felt different from my other coins while counting drawer.
It's thicker than the others no ridges and it looks good.

So was wondering if this should be the first coin I collect or not worth the time and if it's worth what should I do to keep it worthy to build value. Thank you so very much for your help.

@mita, first welcome to CCF. Second, your dime has mechanical damage, which has caused the reeding to get worn away and flattened. This might be a so-called Dryer Coin as noted by @keith.

Will a dryer do so little damage to the surface, if it does that much damage to the reeding?

Mita - happy to bear with you, but would rather not bare with you, I'm guessing.

If it is an early stage then yes.

a Dryer Coin or a spooned coin.

yes, depending where it gets caught in the dryer. If it rolls around the drum instead of tumbling, then just the edge will get affected.

Neither spooned nor a Dryer Coin, but definitely altered outside the Mint.
