Congratulations!

This classic type is on my list. Maybe those are just adjustment marks on the madonna (i.e. a part of the coin's history, and not PMD)?

tdziemia, the auction pics certainly obscured the extent of the damage to the Madonna, but I'll hang on to it.

Almost certainly adjustment marks. Those mint workers really knew how to mess up a coin's main features. Here they went after Louis XVIII and combed his hair.

tdziemia and thq, did it not occur to the mint workers to adjust the weight BEFORE the coin was struck?

I believe they did adjust planchets before striking. The marks survive best on the highest points of the relief. They don't usually show in the fields.
