W-Dog-900-Post-Contest---Ended-See-Page-5-For-Winner W-Dog-900-Post-Contest---Ended-See-Page-5-For-Winner

There are two daily numbers drawn in the PA lottery everyday.
I do not play the lottery, nor do I gamble or condone it.
But this will do for picking a winner. We will be using the evening number NOT the Midday.
The evening of Monday March 30th at 7:00 PM Eastern Time the number is drawn.
Obviously any numbers posted after 6:45 PM will be ignored.
If we need a tie breaker, those will pick for the following day or a later day.

Pick a three digit number for your guess. Pick between digits including 000 and 999.

Then post a short coin fact below that you are 100% sure is correct so
others may learn something new.

Please Note: 999 is not a number closest to 000.
For example 013 is closer than 012 if the number is 999.

A good post example

wheezydog 999

Wheezydog fact:
According to 2009 The Official Red Book - A Guide Book of United States
Coins by R.S. Yeoman
Of the total 3,220,733 1971 US Proof sets. There were an estimated 1,655
1971 US Proof sets that contained a Jefferson nickel that did not have an S
mint mark on it.
Value for the proof set is about $1800.00 and for a single No S 1971 Proof
Jefferson nickel in PF-65 condition is about $1000.00.

Rather than put the link here, just go to GOOGLE and type in PALOTTERY.
It will show on top. But don't worry, I'll let you know who won and what the number was.

I'll accept guesses from USA
Australia, Canada, UK, Spain can play too but I might need postage or some of it, paid by the winner.
This is kind of heavy for international mail maybe?
I hate to exclude anyone, but I don't ship to Nigeria

ALSO SPECIAL BONUS
As promised .... and as a reward for playing and tolerating my first
frustrating contest.
These people below get a second guess! Post like this:

If anyone guesses the EXACT Daily Number for the Evening of March 30th drawing you probably
should have played the lottery instead!
But I have a special prize lined up should that happen.

If you pick the number exact you will also win an
UNC PROBLEM FREE beautiful set of 1943 P D and S Lincoln Steel Cents.

PM me if you want a link to the winning number. Or you can just trust me to get it right.
I think this is a good winning lot for the beginner.
None are checked for varieties or RPM's or doubled dies but I doubt if you'll find anything of high value.
This is a good batch of coins for a Young Numismatist or for one of you advanced collectors, should you win, to pass on to one at your local coin club or to a family member.

I see many of these were saved from change I received on my milk route in 1982 and some from roll searches, others are hand me downs or trades with my Dad.
These were dear to me at one time, so this isn't a junk pile.

Included in this for the lucky winner is Lincoln Cents and Jefferson nickels

Hey Wheezy,

NICE CONTEST!

The Lottery, right up my alley!!

I'll say

550

for Monday Night.

For those Lincoln Cent Doubled Die hounds, there exists a pretty dramatic 1958 Doubled Die obverse. Much stronger doubling on Liberty than on the date. Almost as significant doubling as the 1972. Problem with this coin is that there are only TWO currently known. I believe one of them has changed hands at some point in the past, but I don't know the price realized. Something to look for, though!

Collect4fun Fact:

From the US Mint Website:
'Rain or shine, you can visit the Philadelphia Mint. That wasn't always true... Back in 1825, you couldn't visit when it was raining. The following is from the official rules and regulations that were adopted that year: "Visitors may be admitted by permission of an officer to see the various operations of the Mint on all working days except Saturdays and rainy days' "

Coin Fact taken from Coinfacts.com.
The coin known popularly as the "Nickel," first appeared in 1866. The term "Nickel" refers to the main component of the alloy used to strike the coin and was meant to differentiate the new coin from another of the same denomination that circulated at the same time -- the Half Dime made of silver. Despite the fact that other coins were (and are still being) made primarily of Nickel, the term stuck in reference to the Five Cents piece.

Thanks for the contest weezydog.can I go ahead and do both of  my guess's now? If so:Evening 617 YN 185

Coininsean smart stuff:(sorry it's kinda' long but it was handy on a word document)

In 1955 something unusual happened at the Philadelphia Mint. During the process of preparing the working dies that were to be used for striking one cent coins, an error occurred. Working dies are made from steel blanks that receive several impressions from a master die (or hub as it is called). During one of these impressions, a slight misalignment occurred causing the die with Lincoln's portrait to have a doubling of the numbers and letters.

The error was discovered by mint employees after about 40,000 pieces were produced. Since about 24,000 pieces were already mixed in with normal cents, it was decided that these would be released. The remaining error coins were destroyed. Mint employees assumed that the error would never be noticed.

The double-dies first appeared in Upstate New York near the end of 1955 and caused quite a sensation. At first they traded for around 25c, but as news of their existence got around, prices went up quickly to $10 and more. Usually, an error coin will not cause such a stir, but the doubled impression on these coins was obvious, and they became very popular with collectors. Soon the variety was listed in the Guidebook of U.S. Coins and its continued popularity was assured.

A 1955 Double Die cent is worth at least $500, and in uncirculated condition it could be worth from $1000 to $15,000.

These facts are astonishing!
No they are not limited to just US coinage.
Just so you are about 100% sure what you say is correct is fine.
Even paper money facts are fine.

FACT: Ever wonder where the phrase "two bits" came from? Some coins used in the American colonies before the Revolutionary War were Spanish dollars, which could be cut into pieces, or bits. Since two pieces equaled one-fourth dollar, the expression "two bits" came into being as a name for 25 cents.

From coinfacts
The Flowing Hair design appeared on the first United States Silver Dollars in 1794, but only lasted until sometime in 1795, when it was replaced with the Draped Bust design. The 1794 Silver Dollar is a rare coin, represented by approximately 150-200 survivors. The 1795 Silver Dollar is much more common, but the demand from type collectors keeps the prices high.

This is going so well, we have a couple YN's reporting in and great coin facts.
My scheme is going according to plan.

The Bonus guess is for those who also participated in my last contest, which was appreciated but somewhat of a nightmare to play.
I thought they should be rewarded for putting up with me.
