The coin has not been altered after its release other than circulation wear. 3. The assigned grade matches the standard definition of that grade. (This is a tough since each TPG assigns grades according to their own standards. This is where total hobby standards are required. For the US I would think ANA definitions should become the agreed upon standards.) Report this Post to the Staff

kbbpll Pillar of the Community United States 4233 Posts	Posted 06/14/2023 02:05 am #2 is pretty murky. Dipping isn't considered cleaning, for example. And then there's "market acceptable" cleaning. PCGS also straight-grades chopmarked coins. What's your definition of "not altered" vs a straight grade from a TPG? Report this Post to the Staff

The problem with ANA-style technical grading is that the marketplace has uniformly rejected it time and time again. As just one example, in 1990, ANA sold ANACS to Amos Press because they couldn't justify the investment to be competitive with the newcomers, PCGS and NGC.
