Hi, I am new to this. My husband came accross this disk on the ground, which we are pretty sure is gold and something else that is reddish brown. (heavy, 21g soft metal, non-magnetic shines a deep gold colour, and leaves a glistenning gold mark on unglazed ceramic). Could it be an old token or coin or junk or something else. Any ideas mist welcome and many thanks. I am not sure if I have uploaded the pics as I can't tell- I tried to read the tutorials but am finding this very complicated)

to the CCF, Ratatat! That's a very curious object. I don't think that it is / was a coin. Perhaps a mangled piece of jewelry?

To me it looks like nothing so much as a walnut! Dimensions would be helpful. If you have a set of calipers, try to measure it on the longest and shortest axes.

A button is a very good possibility.

Accurate diameter and weight would be a good place to start.

Needs to be checked for density and XRF tested. The gray color on the edge suggests some sort of base metal. I suspect that it was originally gold plated.
Such objects as pictured can have a dense feel, especially if the core is quite thick.

It reminds me of ancient gold coins. Several of those have odd dug-out looking designs, although the scratches might indicate it was dug out post mint.

I think it is some utilitarian object of piece of jewellery. Not a coin because in the fist photo the outer concentric portion bends inwards. Too much work for a lump of metal used in trade.

My vote is that this isn't a coin. If I found it, I'd bring it to a jeweler or pawn shop to have them check if it is gold and if so the purity. In this state it is only worth whatever the metal value is.
