As I said on the first page, I hoped it would have been a legit error, The third and fourth strike didn't look right.

This coin came from a guy in PA who gets mint bags every year or did up until 2016 as he is in his late 70s and just stopped getting the mint bags after all his kids left for college. Once I have it sent in and graded slabbed and hopefully confirmed as a legit piece I will post the end result. I highly doubt it is a fake but you never know. There are bad people out there unfortunately.

Well darn (can I say that here?) that really (potentially) sucks. I hope you get good results from your grading. Have you decided on where you are going to sent it to?

Dearborn, PCGS.. if I am going to do it might as well go for the gold and hope it comes back with a good grade and good news.

Quote: I do not think this coins it is related to Philippines scam with Texas head Quarter. Those coins explained by bobby do not fir the weight and the metal composition. They fit fine, I've been talking to Jon Sullivan, who uncovered the guy's entire operation and got people reimbursed by NGC and PCGS. So the grading companies know all about them. I do sincerely hope the coin is legit though.

Quote: ... Several people remember this guy having a Florida die. Jon Sullivan has seen the images in this thread and has said it's a fake. His quote....
It's counterfeit (although I can't say if it's a Silverstone piece.) Lack of collar marks, ... Thanks for this Bobby and Jon for your insight. The lack of any marks from the collar die is what gave me pause. To be authentic it would have been a normally struck coin with the collar that made it back into the striking chamber somehow to be struck 3 more times out of collar.

Well. I would just have to bite the bullet and send it in. The suspense would be too much. Even after sending it. Thank you for letting us know what Mike said. I'm sure we're all pulling for you.

A dream coin. But almost to perfect and amazing to be true, especially with all the ships aligning up so nicely. Did you notice the Palm tree imprinted on the lower right ship? I hope its real.

Quote: Did you notice the Palm tree imprinted on the lower right ship? I hope its real. Well, seeing how the ship with the 2 palm trees was the second strike, that strike most likely could not obliterate the trees that are on the land (to the right of the first strike ship) - those trees are in the area of the big recess of the die where the ship is and were kept somewhat intact. On the third strike, there are no trees because that area of the coin (of the first strike) is just the flat fields of the coin.

I was wondering about what these were also. (Green arrows) The bottom one looks like maybe took a couple extra (clashes?) Maybe black arrow first then red hit after at different angle? Ship is in a different angle. Still curious about where is the upper part from.
