I have coronation medallions from Victoria to Elizabeth II,
and saw an article in Canadian Coin News for an officially approved one from a private mint. I like it a lot better than the strange and boring design the RCM released (which I won't be buying).

This design comes in 1 oz. silver (3500), and bronze (5000) (as another poster showed in the post about the RCM releases), and two large, high-relief ones; 5 oz. silver (600) and 8 oz. bronze (1800), with both Charles and Camilla on the obverse, and a similar 5 maple leaf reverse.

Ordered it Thursday, got it Monday, sign-for-delivery. Opened the box and came upon a lucite slab.

There's a little lucite rod that slips in a hole in the back of the slab to stand it up.
Looked it over and was perplexed that you couldn't see the reverse. I hate coins in slabs so looked for a way to free it. Couldn't figure it out at first but then noticed what looked like tiny hinges on one side (the 2 dots in the photo above). Tried to lift the top but it was stuck. I put a fingernail in the crack and it came open. It has a small, very strong little magnet holding it shut (single dot).

There it is. It's in another plastic case but watch out, it opens easily. I guess the cameo affect would be heavy cameo. I think the lines on the field reduce the contrast somewhat. The cameo on the King shows better in hand, stereo vision instead of one lens. (All gold tinge is from lighting and is not on the medallion)

And you can see the reverse now.

You get a little information card with it.
OK, pictures taken, get back in there, and don't forget to take the card in, or he'll get lost.

This one fits real nice with my other ones !

I think the Canadian Heritage Mint did a very nice job with this medal.
