Compare with Google Images:-
'2010 $3 Square Barn Owl',
to determine if fake or not,.

IMO, I would not regard this item as a coin, but 'Numismatic Ephemera',
despite Lizzie's image and a statement of value.

Does it have any numismatic value?
- that is up to if the owner is able to sell it.

Would I consider to buy it?
- yes, I am an avid collector of square coins, and occasionally some square 'non' coins.

The coin has not been subject to widespread counterfeiting, but no one can definitively say that it has never been counterfeited.

If it compares nicely with the many images of the actual coin available on the internet, and you are comfortable that its accompanying materials are original, I would say "Proceed."

The $40 asking price is OK, but you may be able to do a little better. Don't be afraid to negotiate a bit.

Why would anyone counterfeit a low in demand and inexpensive coin?

And high mintage of 15,000. No shortage of them.

I would expect counterfiets for the 1948 Canadian Silver Dollar and the 2013 Gold Superman coin. Which there is plenty of.

For the sake of accuracy...

The Mint's stated maximum mintage for the coin was 15,000. The coin's actual mintage was 10,578 per the Mint's Annual Report.

Still quite a few, but ~70% of the published maximum of 15,000.

I think this was my first square coin, and a 3 dollar on top of that. It's also when I started thinking well maybe NCLTs are kind of going crazy.
