Billy I'm not sure where you could find original selling prices for ASE bullion coins. I've only been collecting silver coins for a few years so I had to work backwards to complete sets. I had to pay more recent prices for older coins so my Excel lists do not have original prices.

I came across an October 2010 "Coin Update News" article entitled "US Mint Raises Premiums for American Silver Eagles" which announced the premium charged to authorized purchasers would go up from $1.50 to $2.00 per coin. [ Spot price of silver + premium ]. The article included this factoid:

Quote:
The last time the US Mint increased the premium for Silver Eagles was February 9, 2009 when it was increased from $1.40 to $1.50 per coin. Prior to that, premiums were raised on October 14, 2008 from $1.25 per coin to $1.40 per coin.

The average closing price of silver in 2010 was $20.21 per ounce, with a low of $14.65. Silver closed at $30.90 on 12/31/2010.
Per PCGS:

Quote:
Following Congress's approval, the Mint struck Silver Eagles for the first time ever on November 24, 1986. Immediately, the coins proved to be a huge success and the Mint managed to sell over five million coins in the first year of introducing the Silver Eagle Program. Historical Facts: The price of silver was approximatlely $5.25, on the day that the coins were struck by the U.S. Mint. Therefore, the coins could have been purchased for about $6 or $7 each from a Mint authorized dealer.

To All Concerned, The following is a Paragraph from the Book, The 1986 Proof was sold by the Mint for $21.00.
Nov. 25th 1986 silver spot price...$5.25/oz...so the coins minted sold for 4 x spot.

Quote:
Yes, things have changed when you consider the fact that we just paid $95 for a 2025 ASE Proof.
At todays spot price lets say $30.00/oz and in 86 mint sold ASEs at 4 x spot...we should/could be paying $120.00 per coin...

I'm I seeing/understanding this correctly ....?

Thank you, Mike.
I don't see CAC slabs very often but I've picked up a few here and there. CAC stands for Certified Acceptance Corporation. Their labels have a green sticker or a gold sticker with gold being slightly higher in quality.

I agree with your order of third party graders, Mike. And I would also put CAC at the bottom of the list.
