I am guessing these are common, but it's the first one I can remember seeing. Peace obverse on one side, and correctly oriented Morgan obverse on the other. Weight is 26.65g but doesn't sound like silver when given the ring test. 1921 Peace/Morgan dollar - fake

:-( fake. Comparative ping tone by itself is enough to almost condemn it outright. Certainly enough for an intending buyer to ignore it, and consider no further investigation needed.

The ping test is not the best obervation in this case, because if the two halves were clammed together by glue, it would not sound the same as a normal silver dollar.
Can we get an edge photo? Pretty neat piece, I have not seen one like it before.

Edge is perfect. This thing seems made like this not created from two coins.

Same density and weight, but different alloy is enough to change ping tone. Metal stiffness can vary from genuine, if different alloy or core,(as with fake gold bars, where weight is the same).
I have a few very deceiving centrifugal pressure die cast fakes, with sharp mechanically re cut edge milling. (not US silver Dollars), easily detected by higher ping tone. Never even bothered to weigh them, - no need to.
Ping tone not much use when re cycled 900 fine silver is used in association with fake dies, but if that is the case, diagnostics rely on die differences from genuine.

Interesting. Ping test, tissue test, weight, magnate test, look for casting bubbles, look for a seam somewhere on the coin. It is a matter of trouble shooting . Obviously, it is not a genuine error but fun to investigate. John1

My vote would be a cast piece noting the denticles on the bottom of the Morgan side and the flat relief of the coin as a whole.

Thanks folks! I think I am going with Magician's coin for this one as I doubt it was made to be a counterfeit and sold.

Fake. If you do a search you'll find it for sale for less than 10 real dollars.

That Etsy coin looks exactly like this one! I figured there were more of these out there but great to verify that.
