I have a 1940 Wheat penny with errors in the "IN GOD WE TRUST" Only half the word TRUST is visible its Cut horizontally with only the bottom half of the word on the coin. . Is this common or valuable Also the world WE is cut in half with a distinct crevice through it and the n in IN is smushed The 0 in 1940 is barely punched I am a relatively new coin collector and could really use someone's opinion on this coin. Please and Thank you Also. no mint mark Edited by Metalfan 06/15/2023 5:00 pm

In god we trust seems to have issues as well. What does the reverse look like?

I was leaning that way Dearborn but then I see the alignment of the word liberty and want to make sure it's not just damage.

since Liberty's I and 1940's 0 are also abnormal, could be damage from a machine

I also think it's just damage as the reverse appears to be normal. The obverse shows that something came into contact with the coin as it was rolling on it's edge. A Gumball Machine definitely could do this.
