Typical Greaser with faded L but the entire IN is missing too. Not even the slightest hint of it under scope. Just thought I'd share, apparently this coin's trust level has gone up a notch.

As I recall, the motto as originally proposed was "God Our Trust", so maybe it's just getting back to its roots!

Nice coin. I've seen other coins missing words also, which were attributed to being Struck Through Grease.

Worth a little Acetone soak, see if some of the circulation goop will depart.

Is it OK to Acetone soak a coin? Is that considered cleaning, which I understand is not recommended.

Acetone is fine as long as you do not use standard nail polish remover. Use 100% pure acetone only. In this case it is not really "cleaning" it is "conservation". John1

Nice coin, nice photos. Yes, Give it a good 100% acetone soak. After a distilled water rise (and pat dry), put it in a 2x2.

Why the water rinse? I would not pat dry, just let air dry and if you feel the need to rinse it just use clean acetone. John1

Acetone is safe, 100% as others have stated. It will only attack surface organics, never patina or metal. Overnight soak lifted a good portion of the fingerprints which was surprising. Overall fun coin to have in the collection - I have a new target of 'missing' word coins. Quick Edit: And herein lies your reason for having a 1, 2 and possibly three-tier Acetone dunk system. The soak removed a good bit of goop but also picked-up a few nasties from my laziness of only soaking once.

It was a coin like this that started me on errors and variety's back in 1969. It was the year they made the new master dies. The 69s were so much better than the 68s. Mine had IN GOD missing. Someone called it an atheist cent. I still have them in 2X2s.

If I may add a technique of Coin Dipping in 100% Acetone to make it as convenient for me as possible. I bought this cleaned some of my wife's jewellery, pored out contents and cleaned and dried container well, then added 100% acetone. With pennies I can carfully fit 6, but you may put any size coin inside the basket. The baskets sure makes it convenient to dip coins for sure. In the images I was updating the coin flips for my LWC`s and had no worries with the Acetone alone. Just wanted to share this with all. TY

Dutch - any evidence of the Acetone eating up that plastic container?
