Hello I work at a gas station and found this in a penny roll. At first thought it might be painted so I tried to scratch the "paint" off with no luck. What do you guys think?

Is the diameter within specs? If larger, could be a Texas Cent. Thanks, Doug.

Could also be a cent where someone selectively dissolved the copper.
In sophomore chemistry class, we notched pennies, then used something to dissolve only the zinc, leaving behind a thin copper foil in the shape of a cent. It was a pretty cool experiment.

The surface does not look like a typical missing copper layers. I recommend you give it a bath in 100% pure acetone and don't hold it like you have been, you do not want to get skin oils on it. John1

this it is not acid interferences. In other posts was show how to do in house those color to cents. Any mild or low acids which can disintegrate the Cu will eat the zinc before.
