Ok just was wondering what everyone thinks of this coin? I was tempted, mostly because it is a 1794 Large Cent, but it has three decent size scratches on the face, and reverse some moron carved "JR" on it.

I don't like coins that are that damaged. I'd rather spend the extra money for something better. I do, however, wonder how long ago JR committed his sacrilege.

JR? That was John Revere, Paul's lesser-known 2nd cousin
(see, I have the ebay huckster schtick down pat)

You have to ask yourself the question "how much damage can I tolerate on a coin without growing to hate it over time?"

I'd hold off. The damage is excessive and I wonder how often you'd look at this coin and wish for a better example.

Save your money and wait for a better coin.

Right, I really hate it when people do crap like that to coins :( Or punching holes in them or whatever. I didn't make the bid on it as had to much gouges in it :( If it was only on one side I might get it and just have the good side showing lol.
