Good morning, I'm heading to a coin show today and my goal today is to put together the best set I can for $250, $50 a coin for a Steel Cent, Silver Nickel, Merc Dime, Waahington Quarter, and Walking Liberty half. Year range 1942-1945. I'll post my purchases here. Wish me luck!

Good luck seems doable so long as not all high MS coins

Apologies that the pics will be glare heavy flip pics but here was my first purchase. 1945 WLQ. Paid $95 for it. Probably will be the most expensive purchase today. It was a three way tie for my final 3 choices for half dollar but the way the luster hourglasses across this particular coin is breathtaking. It was the only choice.

Merc Dime. 45S. It's not full torch but it is just so clean that I had to get it. (That mark under the hair is a piece of fuzz trapped in the flip not an imperfection.)

And last but not least...a failure and a story. I was chatting with a very old dealer, had kind grandpa vibes. Told him I was doing a type set and just needed a steel cent. He got SO EXCITED and said in his grandpa voice "I have just the thing." He brings this set back proudly and said "I'll sell it to you for $12. A full 1943 set!"

They are marked up and kind of rough but I bought them and it made his day. It was worth it!

That War Nickel is sweet! Nice steps, great condition, and a die crack to boot.

Wicked nice pickups. Keep that steel cent set in that holder, at least to preserve the story of how you acquired it!

I definitely will. I am going to need to pick up a separate steel cent another day but it was worth grabbing this just to see that old guys face light up at having met a need.
