Hi,

I have another post with some great comments. One thing that raised a flag, was a msg that the grading from the pictures was difficult. I want to make sure that the coins I am taking picture are exactly correct. I want to sell them on ebay. They are from my Grandfathers collection who passed away about 10 yrs ago. All of these coins came from the Montana area. He never cleaned them and I haven't. They have been sitting around.
So, with my post, I added more pictures of the same coins. They were done with sunlight rather than flash, overhead lights. I have checked the coins with my eye, and the light from the sun closely resembles the coin. Should the grading change because of this?
Thanks for all your help.

If the pics are more accurate, more detailed and in better focus, than yes, the grading should change. Grading is about both technical detail and luster/color, but more about detail. I'd rather grade from an excellent scan than a poorly-focused pic that shows the color perfectly. You can always have a dialog with the poster about color and luster.

So, as you develop as a coin shooter, remember that Priority #1 is getting good sharp focus. And note that we have a Coin Photography Forum:
