Picked this up at a coin show and wanted to get some opinions.
Did I do well?

Less shadows so fields and features are more clear

With shadows for luster

Looks very good to me. None of my business what was paid. If $50,000, then maybe not such a good deal.

I Paid $34 for it. It was billed as an MS66 but I tend to ignore dealer remarks. Personally I'm not particularly skilled at Merc Dime grading but this was my favorite even though it's not full bands.

I'd say MS-66FB would not surprise.

I would agree with that grade, but
just about the roughest fields I have seen on any coin.

coinfrog...FB? seriously. did you lose your glasses? there is absolutely no break in the center band at all. what are you seeing that I'm not?

look at those crazy die flow lines. I dont ever remember seeing one like that.

the glare from lighting is a little much and can be hiding small marks. in your initial photos I'm seeing quite a few across the diagonals and on what I call the head of the axe. there could also be a scratch between the O and N and not sure under the nose and around the mouth due to glare. I think the lighting in you second set of photos may be hiding these.

I can go MS65 maybe a plus but I cant add the designation

Totally agree with panzaldi on the center band. No FB.

Large "S" (regular) variety

MS65 not FB (must show full separation on lower and middle bands.)

The "marks" throughout the fields are extensive flow-lines and are not roughness, post-strike or post-mint damage to the coin, although they do alter the characteristics of the luster by their nature.

MS66 imo and yes the flow lines are quite pronounced on this example. I see only a few tics on it and just a touch of toning.
