Interesting die crack found on the obverse of this Bessie Coleman quarter.
The crack appears to run from about K-1 through the R in LIBERTY south into Washington's head.

Not too sure what this feature is, but I don't think it is a die crack, it is very prominent on top of the R but not into the field above it. The marks on the head look to me, like circulation hits.

Maybe better imagery with different lighting angles would help here.

Hi Dearborn, thanks for your response. If you magnify/enlarge the second photo you will see that there are actually two small cracks on the rim above the R. They converse together in the middle of the device to create the much larger crack that then extends south and continues into Washington's hair.

Looks like scratches to me, but maybe pics at a different angle would help. If a die crack it's very minor, not worth extra premium IMO.

Thanks for responding Livingwater. I will try to provide some better photos of the die cracks that I am seeing on this coin.

Here are two additional photos---one without arrows, and one with arrows showing detail of the die cracks. The crack starts as one, divides into two as in extends through the letter R, and then splits into two--and each then again join together into Washington's hair.
I am fairly confident that these are die cracks and not scratches.
I agree that this is not a major die error, but this may be the first "Spikehead" appearing on the Bessie Coleman quarter.
Thanks in advance for any additional comments.

This is a photo taken with my I-Phone. It shows a close-up of the area of the die crack.

This is a duplicate of the previous I-Phone photo with arrows indicating the origin and track of the die cracks. The yellow arrows provide detail of the main crack at the rim, and the major branch which extends south and west. The red arrows provide detail of the branch of the main crack which extends south and then joins again the main crack in Washinton's hair.
