However this occurred it did not leave the mint that way. It's a damaged coin.

It would appear that somebody took a tool of some sort and proceeded to scratch or gouge the fields of the reverse here.

Totally agree with Dearborn. Damage not done in the wild or done by some mechanical item. A person with a hard object had extra time on his hands.
