This was pulled from a discussion about the Proof Lincoln Dollar.

Quote:
The maximum authorized mintage for the commemorative coin offering is 500,000 across all ordering options. In order to attain a sell out, individual coin sales must reach a combined level of 450,000. A special five coin set containing the proof version of the coin will be offered later in the year and 50,000 coins will be reserved for the set. There was initially some speculation about whether another 50,000 coins would be reserved for inclusion in the American Legacy Collection, however I have now been told that this product is discontinued for 2009.

Did this "American Legacy Set" have any special attraction for anyone ? Is anyone sad it's gone ?
I am....I really liked the "packaging" of these proof coins.....
And, I was excited to see how they would do the Lincoln and Louis Braille American Legacy Set !........but now......sadly......it's a discontinued product.........gone .....
Having all the Proof coins in it was special I thought, combined with the two Commemoratives of each year.
Oh well......money saved now right.....

I am not sad to see this one go. I bought one in 2006 when it was first issued. I remember it being about the thickness of a textbook. I sold it rather quickly, cause I had problems storing it. It was essentially a proof set with one of each commemorative dollars.

With all the coins that the mint is producing this year, I would imagine this thing would have weighed more than a phone book.

................probably so !..........however, being all "Proof" coins it would just be the "S" Mint and not including "D" Mint or "P" Mints. But, of course this one would have held these precious 95% pure Copper Proof Cents as well !

And yes......I have a "storage problem" with them too.....I have three of them wrapped in foil in the closet !....can't display them for easy thieving of course.....can't put them in the S.D.B at the bank cause they don't even fit in the LARGE ONES !....

But, I just thought that a 15 year Set library edition of these American Legacy Sets would be pretty neat to have.....and costing $100.00 - $150.00 apiece issue price.......well.....would have been nice !....

I for one am disappointed. I've enjoyed and collected these sets for several years, regardless of the inconsistent naming of this product (Legacy, Premier, etc.) by the mint. I wish they would pick a name and format, and stick with it!

Does anyone know if the US Mint has made any official statement regarding the discontinuance of this product, and if so, where can I read about it?
