I was just noticing that the Polk dollars I got at work today have "In God We Trust" on the obverse instead of on the edge lettering. Is this supposed to be like that? I don't collect these so I really don't know.

Yes, they changed it after Van Buren. The last couple of releases have moved them to the obverse.

The motto was moved to the obverse beginning with the first dollars of 2009.

I think some people supposedly thought the words were left off and got in a huff (although they really were still there, just on the edge of the coin) so they moved it to the obverse in 2009

I'd probably collect these if there were no edge lettering.
