This Nickel has a weird color and I am wondering if it is a copper plated one. Or whatever happened to it.

*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. It's very important to have in the title. ***

Probably environmental damage. It might have been a metal detecting find.

I had a similar one. The consensus seemed to be environmental damage. Yours is way more coppery looking, though.

Quite often, copper nickel coins recovered from ground burial take on an oxidized bronze color.

Metal detector find very plausible.

The weight should be normal. Assuming this is so, then I agree that this is surface discoloration from chemical or environmental exposure.
