Hello everyone,

I bought a lot of dug buttons today and came across this one. The other buttons have been fairly straight forward to identify; the only highlights are two Napoleonic war regimental buttons.

Still working on a few.

Any thoughts on this one?

It is comparatively older and this forum is usually great at helping identify these type things.

Thank you all!

R.

Could be a rivet or decoration from a metal object, maybe for a soldier, a lamp, table, who knows. In 2017 in Kansas City I saw a traveling exhibit from Pompeii, lots of artifacts, plaster casts of the bodies, art work, metal figures, kitchenware, jewelry, coins, etc.

I took a lot of pics and don't want to disrupt this post, but here's a few. Notice the round rivet or decoration on the front of the gladiator helmet. If I ever visit Italy I'd be going to their museums!

@livingwater...thank you for the reply.

I have been to so many museums in Rome (and Italy)and I always photograph things for "reference purposes" but end up with a very large folder with A LOT of photos haha.

The problem with this item is it is a rivet.... And things have been riveted for a very long time.

If you're ever planning a trip to Italy let me know and I'll send along some pointers and highlights.

Hard to identify without context. That is the hard done by looters who usually sell these things. Context is lost.

@jecz79. Thanks for your reply.
I agree.
I have another item posted which I bought in the same lot as this item and a group of more identifiable buttons.

My other post has some form and structure to it... But I still haven't found much on it.
