I have this 1869 Indian Head cent which appears to have a planchet flaw before strike under the word "America" and a small die chip on the reverse. The area under America is incuse so I am thinking a lamination before strike. Diameter is 19mm and weight is 2.93 grams. I graded this G-4. What do you people think?

greetings, the pre strike planchet flaw seems correct as far as I can tell with the photos. The die chip looks right , but other than the use for die markers I see Die chips as inconsequential anomalies with no added value exept for Varieties such as BIE`s
and alike.

agree with defective planchet, or whatever the preferred terminology is these days. Doesn't add a premium, mostly because people want well struck coins and it isn't a striking error - the only error was that an inferior blank make it that far. still an interesting coin though.

It is an interesting coin, better images with better lighting may show the details of what is going on here a bit more.
