If the dealer was smart, he would use this to his own advantage..."Come one, Come all to the shop that sold the $3,000 dollar coin for 9 bucks"!. "Maybe you'll get lucky too"!. They could all be winners in this deal if he/she was a little smarter.

Apparently, none of you have been treated poorly by a coin dealer. I would sure like to meet your coin dealers. The dealers I have met both in Farmington and Albuquerque are not interested in "talking shop" or helping a newer coin collector, all they want to do is sell you something, and usually above fair price.

That is why I enjoy dealing with the folks here on this forum. Everything I have purchased was as described and at a fair price.

I do not really think this "seller" has a clue that he is the person we and the coin community are discussing. Also MCM, I have read your words of the "battle" you fight with every dealer you have met, believe me there are good people in this hobby, and in this world, sorry you seem to of become one of "the people you speak ill of"( by your own words)and I am sorry you feel there are no trust worthy, honest, respectful, decent people in the world, BE WELL, Mike...

To quote a line from the movie, "The Good Shepherd," "...if you meet ONE PERSON in your life that you can trust, consider yourself lucky. I am sorry to say that I have not....." The person who said that was later murdered in the movie, by his own side. I can relate very well to that feeling.

MCM,
I know where you're coming from--there are a few dealers here I wouldn't touch with a 10ft pole. Out of 6 shops, only 2 I'll visit.
The minute you enter their shop, they lord over you and try to force you into a sale, and one quickly gets the hint prices are non-negotiable.
At the same time, I notice most of their inventory is badly cleaned. It's amusingly ironic.
So I won't defend these guys as "that's how the business works". If I don't like their tude, that's it. Business models that ignore the customer base are doomed to fail.

On the other hand, I would completely skip the shop experience and check out coin shows.
This puts the dealers on a level playing field, and I find a lot of great dealers who are interested in collectors, helpful, and willing to let you view stock--with no strings attached.
In that venue, the control-freaks are easy to ignore.
