Looks like a minor Die Chip. Is it raised above the surface?

Looks like there might also be a chip or crack from the U in United, along the edge of the cape.

a Die crack, it would seem to be a common area to happen on this design.

Unfortunately it won't be worth any more than it is now to your grandchildren. It's a very common die chip.

Your intent is incompatible with your choices, or at least the latter one. Anything you believe to be interesting or (eventually) valuable enough to leave your grandchildren, you shouldn't leave in a box. The difference between great value and face value can sometimes be a single nick or hairline scratch, so why encourage such damage by leaving in a box?

When I was a kid, my grandfather gave me a Buffalo nickel with a huge chunk missing. It just looked cool. Still one of my favorite coins in my collection. Positives: 1. He's got a quarter with a clear die chip. 2. He found it CRH himself. 3. A birds nest WCtD quarter is a popular coin with a fun name. Any kid just starting out in coin collecting would be happy to have it. Like my own pop-pop, you don't start a 10 year old out with something worth real bucks.
