Hello all, very new to this forum and posting so I apologize if things aren't in order. I picked up this quarter from my LCS and noticed under the microscope that something about some of the lettering (most noticeably in the mintmark) appears doubled. The FS-801 variety of this coin denotes a die chip on the eagle's head, which this coin appears to have. I'm pretty inexperienced in errors so any words of advice thoughts are greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Yeah, those folded edges look a lot like slide doubling, particularly the fold on the D mint mark. The metal seems to come from within the letters. But that would be much easier to determine with the requested pictures.

Greetings and Welcome. What I see is Machine Doubling and PMD hits on the coins devices. Start with the "T" looks to have taken a hit and metal is raised up along that anomaly, the "S"doesn't look right, "ES" no notch on the lower bar, and your "S" has a line running too far inward maybe PMD, no Doubling on upper left. On the "AR" of quarter the FS-801`s DD step is to the east, your "AR" MD is to the west, same goes for the "ER", LL of DOLLAR again FS-801 to the east, yours nothing.Die Chip on Eagle's Head not a match. Sorry, I wish the at VV had a cleaner coin as an example . So I say MD, but lets see what the group has to say as well.

This it is not the what is recognize as FS-801. The MM has MD clear. All Reverse photo will be nice to have to assign the variety of the coin. I will go to see if I have a clear photo for this.

@ gumperyumper:
Thank you upgrading the photos. I ask to see if you do not have the rare (only 57K strike) RDV-003 but after analyzing the photos (very nice one) is No you has the common RDV-001 variety.

Good morning, I would appreciate any information that anyone could give me to help me identify my 1964-D Quarter. I will post pic I have. If need a close up of this coin I will do my best to do so. ...I do appreciate your time.As much as I would have like to clean this coin mainly on the lower portion of the eagle's chest ( could scrub that off easily) I was told not to clean any coins ...so I did not . Again thank you for your time.

gumperyumper Nice pictures. I suspect Machine Doubling and PMD. Tyra111 You should start your own post. That way you would get specific answers to your questions.
