I have to agree with Spence.
At the very least, the provenance needs to be independently proven for any example of this rare and historically significant coin, whenever it appears in the international auction market.
An EID MAR aureus version came onto the international auction market recently.
The provenance of this particular coin was found to be false.
Spence has got me to speculating that
perhaps? false dies, subsequently modified, to produce a false new variety, may? have been made.
